There can be three types of claims in motor insurance ...

 

 

Own Damage Claim ::


1. Claim Intimation:
Insurer has to be informed about the accident for surveyor deputation. Claim intimation can be given over telephone, sms, website, e-mail, claim intimation form etc.
Minimum info required from customer are
  • Customer name & contact no.
  • Vehicle no.
  • Cause of accident & brief description of accident
  • Place of Accident
  • Place/Workshop where vehicle can be surveyed
  • Brief Description of damage
  • Details of Driver who was driving the vehicle at the time of accident
  • Cashless claim preference – If customer prefers cashless claim service then he will be guided to nearest cashless garage by the insurer. There the customer has to pay excess & depreciation.

2. Documents Requirement
The documents generally required for settlement of motor OD claim are given below.
 a) Claim Form duly completed
 b) Registration certificate copy
 c) Driving license copy
    For loss sustained by parked vehicles, Driving License requirement may be waived.
 d) FIR copy
  A copy of First Information Report/DDR/Panchanama is required wherever third parties life/property damage are involved in an accident.


Cashless Claim:
In cashless claim, insured will be guided to a cashless workshop by insurance company. The surveyor will arrive at the designated workshop as informed to customer and make an assessment of loss. Required claim from, documents etc. will be received & examined by the surveyor at the workshop itself. Surveyor will inform customer that what amount of claim will be paid by insurance company and what amount of payment will be borne by the customer. If the insured agrees, then he/she will require to sign a voucher and repair work on the vehicle will start.

Reimbursement Claim:
After receipt of survey report, claim form & relevant documents; insurance company processes the claim and communicates the same to customer that claim has been approved for “x’ amount or rejected due to certain reasons. While receiving payment for a claim, Customer has to sign a Discharge voucher for discharging the insurance company from any further liability w.r.t that claim.
 


Third Party Claim ::

THIRD PARTY BODILY INJURY CLAIMS

Notice Received from Claimant/MACT :

Insured should intimate about an accident resulting into third party claim to police and insurer.

In case insured receives Claimant’s or MACT’s (Motor Accident Claims Tribunal) notice, Insured should forward all notices to insurance companies with following information -
  • Details about the accident resulting into third party claim.,
  • Insurance policy details.
  • Driver details who was driving at the time of accident
  • Driver’s Driving license particulars
  • Any other information asked by insurer

Insurance company then generally deputes investigator & advocate to Investigation about the accident and present the insurance company’s case before the MACT.

Any award passed by the MACT will be paid by insurance company as per the Motor insurance policy terms and conditions.
 


Motor Theft Claim ::

Partial Loss due to Theft –
Theft of parts/accessories from a vehicle should be reported to the police immediately by the insured.

Total Loss due to Theft -
The following documents are required
  a. a certified copy of the First Information Report,.
  b. Surrender of the Registration Book to the insurer & if requested then duly transferred in the  
 name of the insurers. The RTO is to be informed about the theft of the vehicle by a regd letter.
  c. Letter of Indemnity and Subrogation on the format given by insurance company.
  d. Ignition keys of the car.
  e. Certificate of Insurance and the original insurance policy, if not stolen with the vehicle.
  f. Specially worded discharge voucher
  g. the Final Police Investigation Report
